We've just expanded our living space with only a small dent into our credit card––This is the way to do it with minimal impact.
Meaning that when you don't have 30k to spare, adding an extra room or two to the home can be within reach. Gazebos an be sturdy and the mosquito netting makes it tolerable despite mosquito visitation. We looked at many gazebos and there were several that seemed flimsy when stressed (pulling on the support poles etc) and settled on a model that seems like it will last a few years (although the canopy is something that will need regular replacement, according to research).
We got two identical gazebos. We could have gotten only one, but the concrete block foundation underneath measures 22' x 14' and this allowed two of these side by side. Each is 10' x 12' and we now have the flexibility of opening up the mosquito paneling in between to have an extended 20' x 12' area. For now, we're leaving it separated because each little compartment allows a little privacy. There are 3 bedrooms in the home, with the master bedroom being the largest and the two other ones measuring close to 10x10, I would say these outdoor 'rooms' makes the entire living arrangement more spacious. The diningroom table continues to be in the open hexagon gazebo in front (not visible in the images below) and to the left of the two new gazebo.
We have lights strung all around the interior perimeter which looks spectacular in the evening. It's already getting really hot during the day (after the rains of previous weeks) and it feels lovely and cool in the evening while the house itself has started heating up like a furnace and continues to be warm in the evening. I sat out in the gazebo last night luxuriating in the lightly cool temperature.
